PO: Requires 1-3 days to effectively soften stools. Ensure adequate fluid intake. PR: Can be given rectally as enema to older children (add 50-100 mg of oral solution to enema fluid). Do not administer concurrently with mineral oil as increased absorption of mineral oil may occur (docusate is a surfactant). Oral liquid is BITTER. Diluting in milk, formula, or juice may help disguise bad taste. Standard Prescription: docusate__mg PO__(frequency) (__mg/kg/24hr) or (__mg/24hr) |
