Children: (no specific pediatric guidelines) Contact BC Drug and Poison Center Subsequent doses: 10 mg/kg/dose IV Q12H until methanol level is below 6 mmol/L or ethylene glycol level is below 3 mmol/L or osmole gap is less than 10 If hemodialysis is required, give 10 mg/kg IV 4 hours after start of hemodialysis and 10 mg/kg IV immediately following completion of hemodialysis Maximum: 1500 mg/dose |
Used to treat methanol and ethylene glycol toxic ingestions. Fomepizole is a potent alcohol dehydrogenase inhibitor and will impair the elimination of ethanol if co-ingested. May cause bradycardia, tachycardia, hypotension, headache, dizziness, nausea, bad taste/smell. Seizures and fever have been reported. Renal elimination; increased toxicity in renal failure; no dosage recommendations available for renal impairment.
