Extravasation antidote; proteolytic enzyme

Injection: 150 units/mL

Available through Health Canada Special Access Program. A supply is kept in the pharmacy and may be used for any patient in the hospital (pharmacy is to track usage).
Tissue Injury secondary to Extravasation:
(by physician only)
Draw up 0.2 mL of 150 Unit/mL into 4 or 5 one mL syringes. Inject 0.1-0.2 mL (15-30 units) subcutaneously or intradermally in 4 to 5 sites around the circumference of infiltrate, using a new needle with each injection.

Wait 10 to 15 minutes and inject 3 to 5 mL NS into each injection site.

Do not administer intravenously.

Most benefit if injected within 1 hour of extravasation.
