Adolescents/Adults: Initial: 5-10 mg PO BID Increment: Increase over 7-10 days to effective control of psychotic symptoms. Medium potency conventional antipsychotic. High incidence of sedation, moderate effects on the cardiovascular system and a moderate incidence of anticholinergic side effects. Moderate incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), including dystonic reactions in children and adolescents (treat with benztropine or diphenhydramine). 15 mg loxapine PO approx. = 100 mg chlorpromazine PO or 2 mg haloperidol PO.
