Not recommended for pain relief. Meperidine is considered 4th line therapy for ampho-induced chills (after failure of steroids, antihistamine or acetaminophen). Use with caution in renal failure: Metabolite of meperidine has CNS effects (tremors, seizures). If used to treat amphotericin-induced chills, consider other concurrent narcotics or CNS depressants being used to avoid excessive sedation.
