METOPROLOL (Paeds) (Betaloc) Mechanism of action: Beta-1 selective beta-adrenegic blocker Ref: 29, 65 , 192, 193 Last update: 2019-06-29	tablet: 50 mg, 100 mg liquid (BCCH): 5 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL injection: 5 mg/mL	Hypertension: Initial: 0.5-1 mg/kg/dose PO BID Max dose: 6 mg/kg/24 hr CHF/Cardiomyopathy: Initial: 0.1 -0.2 mg/kg/dose PO BID. Increase as tolerated to maintenance dose of 0.25-1mg/kg/dose PO BID Adults: Hypertension: 12.5-50 mg PO daily (Max dose 450 mg/24hr) CHF: initial dose 12.5-25 mg PO Daily to a target of 200 mg/day (S/R product-not stocked at BCCH)	Allow at least 3 days between dose adjustments when treating hypertension. Allow 1-2 weeks between dose adjustments when treating cardiomyopathy/CHF due to short-term negative inotropic effects. Use with caution in reactive airway disease.
