Prevention of Perinatal HIV Transmission (Moderate to High  Risk Situations):

> 2 kg body weight:
12 mg po once at birth, 2 days of age and 6 days of age (total 3 doses)

≤ 2 kg body weight:
8 mg po once at birth, 2 days of age and 6 days of age (total 3 doses)

Presumptive Therapy
If Birthing Individual/Mother is known to be HIV positive and very high risk (HIV VL > 1000 copies/mL)- contact Oak Tree Clinic for dosing

Obtain medications from the Prevention of Perinatal HIV Transmission Kits.

Call Oak Tree Clinic at 604-875-2250 to inform them of delivery and consultation for monitoring therapy.

Refer to Oak Tree Clinic guidelines ("Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV") on PHSA SHOP.

For treatment dosing for children living with HIV please contact the Oak Tree Clinic at 604-875-2250.

For infants of Birthing Individual/Mother's at high risk of HIV, infant medications may be discontinued if maternal HIV infection ruled out (based on maternal HIV diagnostic PCR) in consultation with Oak Tree Clinic.

If infant discharged on nevirapine send supply home with caregiver.

Oral solution stored at room temperature.

Can be administered with feeds or on an empty stomach. Do not mix nevirapine into formula.
