Injection: 30 mg/10 mL vial | Osteogenesis imperfecta and other forms of osteoporosis: Full-dose (9 mg/kg/year): <2 yrs: 0.5 mg/kg/dose IV daily x 3 days; repeat every 2 months 2-3 yrs: 0.75 mg/kg/dose IV daily x 3 days; repeat every 3 months >3 yrs: 1 mg/kg/dose IV daily x 3 days; repeat every 4 months Maximum: 60 mg/dose Shortened (low-dose) infusions: age >=3 years only (4.5 mg/kg/year): <25 kg: 1.5 mg/kg/dose IV x 1 day; repeat every 4 months. Maximum: 37.5 mg/dose >=25 kg: 0.75 mg/kg/dose IV daily x 2 days; repeat every 4 months. Maximum: 45 mg/dose |
May cause fever, flu-like symptoms (chills, malaise, rigor, fatigue, flushing, nausea), more common with 1st and 2nd doses; may treat with acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Nausea may be treated or prevented with ondansetron. Hypocalcemia may be seen, especially with high doses and with 1st doses. Ensure patient is Vitamin D-replete and has sufficient dietary calcium. For 1st cycle only: give 50% of dosage to minimize adverse effects. Standard Prescription: pamidronate __mg IV daily (__mg/kg/24 hr) x __days; repeat Q__months |
