Colonic lavage solution; osmotic laxative.

Disposable jug reconstituted to 4 L of solution (PEG 3350 = 238.18 grams).

Sachet reconstituted in 1 L of water (PEG 3350 = 59.55 grams).

PegLyte contents (per litre):
PEG 3350 17.8 mmol,
Na + 126 mmol,
K + 10.2 mmol,
Cl - 35.3 mmol,
sulphate 40.4 mmol,
bicarbonate 20.1 mmol.
Bowel Cleansing:
Children: 25-40 mL/kg/hr PO/NG/gastrostomy until fluid from rectum is clear (usually in 4-10 hrs).
Adults: 240 mL PO/NG Q10 min. until 4 L is consumed or fluid from rectum is clear.
Chilling makes it more palatable. Do not add additional flavouring to the solution.

Patients should fast for 3 hours prior to ingestion.

Onset of first bowel movement: 1 to 2 hours

Use with care and guidance in children with active small/large bowel disease or strictures, impaired gag reflex, or aspiration risk.

Oral medications administered within one hour of bowel cleansing may have decreased absorption due to increased peristalsis


Standard Prescription:

PEG with electrolytes __mL/hr (__mL/kg/hr) PO/NG/gastrostomy until fluid from rectum is clear

PEG with electrolytes __mL PO/NG Q10 min until 4 L is consumed or fluid from rectum is clear
