Topically: Apply a thin layer of cream or ointment BID-TID. Triamcinolone in Orabase: Press a small dab (about 6 mm) to oral lesion until a thin film develops; do not rub in. May be applied OD-TID, depending on the severity of symptoms. Intra-articular: Use hexacetonide (Aristospan) or acetonide. Large Joints: 40 mg (2 mL) Small Joints: 5-20 mg (0.25-1 mL) Intralesional: Use 5 mg/mL or 10 mg/mL dilution of acetonide (Kenalog). Amount injected depends on size of lesion. |
Injectable forms are not for IV use. Use acetonide for small joints due to risk of subcutaneous atrophy with hexacetonide.
