Mechanism of action:

Synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and antiallergic properties

cream: 0.1%
ointment: 0.1%
in orabase: 0.1%
injection: 10 mg/mL (acetonide [Kenalog-10]); 20 mg/mL (hexacetonide [Aristospan]); 40 mg/mL (acetonide [Kenalog-40])
Topically:
Apply a thin layer of cream or ointment BID-TID.

Triamcinolone in Orabase:
Press a small dab (about 6 mm) to oral lesion until a thin film develops; do not rub in. May be applied OD-TID, depending on the severity of symptoms.

Intra-articular:
Use hexacetonide (Aristospan) or acetonide.
Large Joints: 40 mg (2 mL)
Small Joints: 5-20 mg (0.25-1 mL)

Intralesional:
Use 5 mg/mL or 10 mg/mL dilution of acetonide (Kenalog). Amount injected depends on size of lesion.
Injectable forms are not for IV use.

Use acetonide for small joints due to risk of subcutaneous atrophy with hexacetonide.
