Pediatric: IV: 10 mg/kg/dose IV TID-QID. PO: 10-20 mg/kg/dose BID-QID or 25 mg/kg/dose TID Adolescents: IV: 10 mg/kg/dose TID-QID.PO: 1-1.5 g/dose BID-QID. Trauma-associated hemorrhage (only if within 3 hours of injury): 15 mg/kg/dose IV once (Maximum 1 gram/dose), then may consider 2 mg/kg/hour IV infusion for 8 hours (125 mg/hr) or until bleeding stops (Maximum 1 gram over 8 hours) |
Reduce dose in patients with renal impairment. Absorption from G.I. tract is about 40%. Time to peak activity: PO: 3 hrs; IV: 5 minutes Tranexamic acid may be safely given with short courses (2-5 days) of combination oral contraceptives.
