AMPICILLIN (Paeds)


Mechanism of action:

Beta-lactam antibiotic

Last update: 2022-06-08		 injection:  250 mg,  500 mg,  1 g, 2 g vials Mild-Moderate Infections:  
IV: 25-50 mg/kg/dose IV/IM Q6H

Pneumonia and Severe Infections:  
50-100 mg/kg/dose IV/IM  Q6H. (max: 12g /24h)

Usual Adult Dose:  
1-2 g IV Q4-6H
 Use higher doses to treat CNS infections.  CSF penetration occurs only in inflamed meninges.

Amoxicillin is preferred for oral therapy.



Standard Prescription:

ampicillin __mg IV Q__H (__mg/kg/24hr).
