Solutions containing preservatives should not be used for epidural or caudal blocks or infusion. Bolus epidural doses are only to be administered by Anesthesia. Neuroaxial use must be preservative-free formulation. Risk of resuscitation-resistant cardiotoxicity with toxic doses or inadvertent intravascular injection. Treatment of cardiotoxicity includes standard resuscitation measures and lipid emulsion bolus and infusion doses (see intralipid monograph).
