Propylthiouracil, another anti-thyroid medication, is no longer recommended as first-line therapy because of hepatic and renal toxicity Start decreasing the dose when patient is euthyroid and TSH become detectable (usually after 1-2 months). Adjust dose to achieve TSH serum concentrations in the normal range Can be given 1-3 times a day. Adherence is better with once-daily dosage. Standard Prescription: Methimazole __ mg PO daily (__ mg/kg/day) |
