Non-steriodal leukotriene receptor antagonist

chewable tablets: 4 mg, 5 mg
tablets: 10 mg
Children < 6 years old:
4 mg PO QHS

Children 6-14 years old:
5 mg PO QHS

Adults and Children >= 15 years old:
10 mg PO QHS
May be used as adjunctive therapy with moderate to high doses of inhaled corticosteroids.

May have steroid-sparing properties; allowing for better asthma control at a reduced dose of inhaled corticosteroids.

Metabolized extensively by CYP 3A4, 2C8, 2C9

Side effects: headache, flu-like symptoms, abdominal pain, cough.

Neuropsychiatric events (abnormal dreams, hallucinations, suicide ideation/behavior, tremors) and development of Churg-Strauss syndrome have been reported in a few case reports.
