May be used as adjunctive therapy with moderate to high doses of inhaled corticosteroids. May have steroid-sparing properties; allowing for better asthma control at a reduced dose of inhaled corticosteroids. Metabolized extensively by CYP 3A4, 2C8, 2C9 Side effects: headache, flu-like symptoms, abdominal pain, cough. Neuropsychiatric events (abnormal dreams, hallucinations, suicide ideation/behavior, tremors) and development of Churg-Strauss syndrome have been reported in a few case reports.
