Loop diuretic

Tablet: 1 mg, 5 mg

Injection: 2 mg/4 mL
(injection requires approval from Health Canada Special Access Program)
Infants and children:
0.015 to 0.1 mg/kg/dose PO/NG/IV every 6 to 24 hrs

Adults:
0.5 to 2 mg/dose PO/NG/IV every 12 to 24 hrs; Maximum 10 mg/day
May cause hypokalemia, alkalosis, dehydration, hyperuricemia, increased calcium and magnesium excretion, nephrocalcinosis.

For use in cardiac patients who are unresponsive to furosemide.

Maximal diuretic effects were found to occur at doses of 0.04 mg/kg in critically ill infants.
