Mechanism of action:

First generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Last update: 2022-06-16		 Injection:  500 mg, 1 g Infants and Children:
Mild to Moderate Infections: 17-35 mg/kg/dose IV Q8H.
Severe Infections: 35 - 50 mg/kg/dose IV Q8H (Max 2 g/dose).
Osteomyelitis and Cystic Fibrosis: 37.5 mg/kg/dose IV Q6H (max 2 g/dose)

Adults:
Usual dose 1-2 g IV Q8H.
Max 12 g/24 hr		 Does not enter CSF.

NOTE: For enteric Gram negative organisms, cefazolin susceptibility does not indicate susceptibility to cephalexin.

Dosage adjustment required in renal impairment.
