First generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Capsule: 250 mg, 500 mg
Suspension: 50 mg/mL
Children:
Mild to Moderate Infections:
15 mg/kg/dose PO Q8H or Q6H. Max 4 g/day
Severe Infections:
25 mg/kg/dose PO Q6H. Max 4 g/day
Osteomyelitis:
37.5 mg/kg/dose PO Q6H. Max 4 g/day
Cystic Fibrosis:
25-40 mg/kg/dose PO Q6H. Max 4 g/day

Adults:  
Mild to Moderate infections:
250-500 mg/dose PO Q6H. Max 4 g/day
Severe Infections:
500-1000 mg/dose PO Q6H. Max 4 g/day

More palatable, less GI upset and higher bioavailability than PO cloxacillin.

Cefazolin sensitivity does not predict susceptibility to cephalexin.

Dosage adjustment required in renal impairment.
