Dosages
Sedation or muscle relaxation:
0.04-0.2 mg/kg/dose PO Q6-8H.
Maximum: 10 mg/dose
Status Epilepticus:
0.3 mg/kg/dose IV or 0.5 mg/kg/dose PR. IV or PR dose may be repeated in 5-10 min. if required.
Maximum single IV dose:
< 5 yr: 5 mg IV
>= 5 yr: 10 mg IV
Maximum single PR dose:
20 mg PR

Mechanism of Action
Benzodiazepine. Diezepam is a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA type A receptors reducing the arousal of the cortical and limbic systems in the central nervous system

injection: 10 mg/2 mL amp (contains propylene glycol)

Comments
Injectable product may be given rectally.
IV administration rate of undiluted injection not to exceed 5 mg/min.
Adverse effects (IV): Hypotension, respiratory depression (especially following rapid IV administration).
