Standard Prescription
ephedrine __mg IV Q__H (__mg/kg/dose)
Dosages
Hypotension, anesthesia- induced:
Children: 0.1-0.3 mg/kg/dose IV Q4-6H. Max 25 mg/dose.
Adults: 5-25 mg/dose IV, may repeat once after 5-10 min. PRN, then Q3-4H
Maximum: 150 mg/24 hr

Mechanism of Action
Stimulates alpha and beta receptors and norepinephrine release,
resulting in bronchodilation, cardiac stimulation and increased systolic
and diastolic blood pressure.

injection: 50 mg/mL
Comments
Adverse Effects: May cause arrhythmias, tachycardia, hypertension, and intracranial bleeding.
Longer-acting and less potent than epinephrine
