NALBUPHINE __mg IV q__h PRN (__mg/kg/dose)

Dosages

Reversal of Pruritis From Epidural Opioids:
  • 0.05 mg/kg/dose IV to a maximum of 5 mg IV Q4H PRN.

Mechanism of Action

Nalbuphine is a mixed opioid agonist/antagonist.

Injection: 2.5 mg/mL; 1 mL vials

Comments

  • Nalbuphine is a mixed opioid agonist/antagonist.
  • Concomittant use of other CNS depressants (narcotics, sedatives, hypnotics) may have additive effects.
  • Patients dependent on opioids may experience withdrawal symptoms with high doses of nalbulphine.
  • Naloxone can be used for respiratory depression reversal.
  • Efficacy not established
