Standard Prescription
nystatin__units PO swish and swallow__(frequency)
nystatin topical ointment apply to affected area__(frequency)
nystatin vaginal cream: apply one applicatorful__(frequency) x__days

Dosages
Suspension:
Swish (30-60 sec) and swallow or apply to recesses of the mouth:
Infants: 200,000-400,000 U/dose (2 to 4 mL/dose) PO QID
Children and Adults: 400,000-600,000 U/dose (4 to 6 mL/dose) PO QID

Topical Ointment and Cream:
Apply liberally to affected area BID-QID.
Vaginal Cream:

Comments
Treat until 48-72 hour after resolution of symptoms. Usual treatment duration for oral candidiasis is 10-14 days.
Poor absorption orally.
Adverse effect: diarrhea and GI upset.
Topical cream is preferred to ointment in diaper areas.
