Dosages
Children >12 years old/Adults:
Mild to moderate anxiety:
10-15 mg PO TID-QIDSevere anxiety or management of alcohol withdrawal:
15-30 mg PO TID-QID
Insomnia:
15-30 mg PO HS

Comments
Does not undergo oxidative metabolism. Dosage adjustment not required for patients with impaired hepatic function.
Do not discontinue abruptly after continuous use: may precipitate seizures and/or withdrawal syndrome.
Benzodiazepines are habit-forming, commonly abused, and have a significant street value.
For anxiety, benzodiazepines are for symptomatic treatment only, and alternative strategies to replace benzodiazepine use should be sought quickly.
