Dosages
Doses expressed in terms of mg primaquine phosphate
Treatment of Malaria:
0.88 mg/kg/dose PO daily x 14 days.
30-59 kg: 26.3 mg (1 tablet) PO daily x 14 days
> 60 kg: 52.6 mg (2 tablets) PO daily x 14 days
Maximum dose: 52.6 mg primaquine phosphate/dose

Mechanism of Action
Anti-malarial.

tablet: 26.3 mg (= 15 mg primaquine base)
Comments
Used in combination with appropriate acute antimalarial treatment of P. vivax and P. ovale malaria for "radical cure" as it has activity against liver stage; not used as a single agent.
May cause massive hemolysis in patients with G6PD deficiency; Prior to use, G6PD testing needed to confirm normal activity.
Give with food to mask bitter taste.
