Dosages
Infants and children:
Oral dosing:
50-65 mg/m2/dose (2.5-3 mg/kg/dose) PO Q8H or Q12H. Usual range: 150-200 mg/m2/24 hr div. Q8H.
Oral dosing:
50-65 mg/m2/dose (2.5-3 mg/kg/dose) PO Q8H or Q12H. Usual range: 150-200 mg/m2/24 hr div. Q8H.
If required, dose may be increased by 20-30% every 3 days to a maximum of 600 mg/m2/24 hr. (18 - 20 mg/kg/24 hr).
Mechanism of Action
Class Ic antiarrhythmic agent with some beta blocker effect and negative inotropic effects.
Forms Supplied
tablet: 150 mg, 300 mg
oral suspension (BCCH): 1.5 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL.
Comments
Class Ic antiarrhythmic. Also has beta blocker effect with negative inotropic effects.
Side effects include GI distress, vomiting, unpleasant taste, fatigue, elevated liver enzymes, AV block, bradycardia, proarrhythmia.
Monitor QRS duration and PR interval.
Has potential to interact with digoxin leading to increased digoxin levels.
