Comments

Famotidine is currently the preferred H2 antagonist over ranitidine due to concerns with  N-nitrosodimethlamine (NDMA) impurities in ranitidine formulations. Currently Health Canada requires companies to test every batch of rantidine products before releasing it and throughout its shelf life, to demonstrate that products do not contain higher than accepted levels of NDMA.  NDMA is considered a probable human carcinogen, however we are all exposed to low levels of NDMA through drinking water, air pollution and food (eg. Smoked/cured meats, dairy products and vegetables).

Reduce dose in patients with renal impairment.
