Standard Prescription
Seattle mouthwash __mL swish & spit Q__H PRN
Dosages
2.5 to 10 mL/dose (depending on size of child) Q4 to 6H PRN. Swish and spit.
Mechanism of Action
Combination of a topical anesthetic, antacid and antihistamine.

Suspension (BCCH)
Contains per mL:
Maalox 0.4 mLdiphenhydramine 1 mg
lidocaine viscous (2%) 0.2 mL
Comments
Should be swished around mouth for 1-2 min. and then spit out. Not to be swallowed.
Most young children are unable to swish and spit - may apply sparingly to inside of mouth.
Systemic absorption of diphenhydramine or lidocaine may result in toxicity or adverse effects (e.g. sedation or seizures).
