Dosages
Neonatal Hemorrhagic Disease:
Prophylaxis:
IM (Route of choice) 0.5-1 mg/dose IM x 1 within 6 hr after birth
Vitamin K Deficiency due to Malabsorption or decreased synthesis of Vitamin K:
Infants and Children:
Vitamin K supplementation in Cystic Fibrosis:
1-5 mg/dose PO once daily.
Prophylaxis:
IM (Route of choice) 0.5-1 mg/dose IM x 1 within 6 hr after birth
PO (If parents refuse IM route) 2 mg PO x 3 doses (at birth, 2-4 weeks of age and at 6-8 weeks of age).
Treatment:
1-2 mg/24 hr IM/SC/IV
Vitamin K Deficiency due to Malabsorption or decreased synthesis of Vitamin K:
Infants and Children:
1-5 mg/dose /IV/SC x 1 or 2.5-5 mg/24 hr PO daily May repeat dose depending on severity of deficiency and response to treatment.
Adults:
2.5-25 mg/24 hr PO/IV/SCVitamin K supplementation in Cystic Fibrosis:
1-5 mg/dose PO once daily.

Comments
Injectable form may be given orally.
Use IV/ route only when other routes of administration are not feasible (IV/ may cause flushing, dizziness, hypotension, anaphylaxis).
