Dosages
Hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease
Children:
Initial: 0.25 - 0.5 mg/kg/dose daily-TID (0.25 - 1 mg/kg/day) PO (Max 60 mg/day).
Adults:
Initial: 15 - 60 mg/day PO
Maintenance: progressively decrease to 50% or less of initial dose
Children:

Comments
Propylthiouracil, another anti-thyroid medication, is no longer recommended as first-line therapy because of hepatic and renal toxicity
Start decreasing the dose when patient is euthyroid and TSH become detectable (usually after 1-2 months).
Adjust dose to achieve TSH serum concentrations in the normal range
Can be given 1-3 times a day. Adherence is better with once-daily dosage.
