Dosages
Drug Induced Extrapyramidal Symptoms (EPS)
Children > 3 yrs: 0.5-1 mg PO/IM as needed, up to max. 0.1 mg/kg/24 hr
Adolescents/Adults: 0.5-2 mg PO/IM as needed, up to max. 6 mg/day
Acute Dystonic Reaction:
Children > 3 yrs: 1-2 mg IM/IV
Adolescents/Adults: 2 mg IM/IV. May repeat once in 30 minutes

Comments
May cause CNS depression or stimulation, nervousness, anticholinergic adverse effects (e.g. dry mouth, blurred vision, dry eyes, urinary retention, constipation, tachycardia).
Use with caution in hot weather to prevent hyperthermia (suppresses sweating).
Avoid with narrow-angle glaucoma. Use with caution with glaucoma or asthma.
Use with caution in children; may cause cognitive impairment or unmask tardive dyskinesia.
Does not relieve, and may potentially exacerbate symptoms of tardive dyskinesia.
Per manufacturer, no difference in onset of action following IM or IV administration
Duration of action may be shorter than the duration of drug-induced EPS, and repeat dosing may be required.
