erythromycin eye ointment: __cm to__eye(s) Q__H

Dosages

PO:
Children:  10-12.5 mg/kg/dose PO TID-QID
Adults: 250-500 mg  PO BID-QID

IV:
Children:  5 mg/kg/dose IV Q6H
Maximum 1000 mg/dose
Adults:  500-1000 mg IV Q6H


Prokinetic agent (infants & children):
3mg/kg/dose PO QID
Maximum 250 mg/dose

Topical:
Eye Infections:  0.5-1 cm ribbon to affected eye(s) BID-QID.
Prophylaxis of Neonatal Gonococcal or Chlamydial Infections:  1 cm ribbon to each eye x 1

Comments

Bioavailability 18-45%

CYP P450 inhibitor; may increase digoxin, cisapride, carbamazepine and other medication levels if given concurrently. Check for drug interactions.

Rapid IV administration causes severe vein irritation and cardiac arrhythmias (infuse over 60 min. or longer).

Avoid IM route or extravasation.

Perform liver function tests with prolonged, high doses.
