Standard Prescription
mineral oil __ml PO__(frequency)
Dosages
1-3 mL/kg/dose PO daily or in divided doses
Usual Oral Dose by Age:
6 to 12 years: 5 -15 mL
> 12 years and Adults: 15-45 mL
Rectal:
2 to 11 years: 60 mL pr x 1
> 12 years and adults: 120 mL pr x 1

Mechanism of Action
Lubricant laxative

Fleet mineral oil enema: 130 mL (each unit delivers 120 mL when used as directed)
Comments
Considered as additional or second line treatment
Onset of action is 6-8 hours.
Should not be used for longer than one week.
Do not take concurrently with docusate.
May impair absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, calcium and warfarin.
May cause diarrhea, cramps, and lipid pneumonitis (via aspiration).
If given orally, do not give at HS and use with caution in children < 5 years or with neurological deficits due to aspiration risk.
