Infants and Children: 35-70 mg/kg/dose IM/IV Q8H
Severe Infections: 50 mg/kg/dose IM/IV Q6H .
Meningitis: 75 mg/kg/dose IM/IV Q6H (300 mg/kg/24 hr IV div. Q4-Q6H).

Comments
Dosage adjustment is required in severe renal impairment.
Third generation cephalosporin with similar spectrum of activity to ceftriaxone.
Cefotaxime is preferred over ceftriaxone in the neonatal population (see ceftriaxone dosing monograph).
